Giovanni Battista Scalabrini: a holy bishop, from Piacenza to the world

To celebrate the recent canonization of Giovanni Battista Scalabrini, an in-depth study on the important figure of the prelate is presented:
the life of the prelate, who was born in Fino Mornasco in 1839, was ordained priest in 1863 and was Bishop of Piacenza from 1876, at the age of 37, until his death in 1905,
the work of the bishop, defined as an apostle of migrants because of his great attention to the problems of Italians who left their homeland in search of fortune,
the social issues addressed during his episcopate, aimed at attention to the people, catechetical teaching, charity, training of the clergy,
the iconography representing him at institutes and churches in the diocese,
Scalabrini and the cathedral of Piacenza, with a focus on the restorations promoted by the bishop between the end of the 19th century and the early 20th century to restore its original appearance and on the funeral monument of 1905,
Scalabrini’s set exhibited in Kronos – Cathedral Museum, focusing in particular on some precious artefacts, donated to him on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his episcopate in 1901.
It will illustrate the foundation of the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles (1887) with the birth of the religious order, the departure of the first religious for the apostolate among migrants and the memorial monument, the mother house of the Missionaries with the adjoining museum and picture gallery and the museum of emigration, the Scalabrini church of St. Charles.
Finally, the foundation of the Scalabrinians Sisters (1895) and the provincial house in Piacenza with the Scalabrini museum annexed and the bishop’s furnishings will be illustrated.
